Based on the energy audit and the preliminary analysis, before the pilot experimentation, 30 pilot dwellings have been classified as Energy Class E (236 KWh Ep/m²-year).
The following table shows the identified energy efficiency measures.

 
Technical specifications have been well defined for each retrofitting measure. As a good practical example, one of the technical specifications (partial renovation of the waterproofing terraces) is downloadable below.

It was expected for the Arles pilot experimentation to improve energy performance of pilot dwelling, reaching energy class B (77 kWh Ep/m²-year).

Based on the preliminary analysis, the current energy class of all 30 pilot buildings corresponds to G, the energy consumptions are quite high, and amount to 317 - 437 kW/m2-yr.
The identified energy efficiency measures are given in the following table.

 

 
It is expected that after retrofitting, although the energy rating remains the same the energy consumption of 30 pilot buildings shall be around 40% less, with energy performance 225 kWh/m2-year.

Before refurbishment, two pilot buildings were characterised by:
- no wall thermal insulation,
- single glazing,
- having mainly gas boilers for space heating and sanitary hot water. 
The preliminary analysis results showed that, before retrofitting, the specific energy consumption of the dwellings in the first pilot building amounted to 94 -189 kWh/m2, and the second one consumed from 95 -170 kWh/m2, which corresponds to an energy class F/G (first one) and E/F, respectively.
 
 
 
The identified energy efficiency measures are:
- external wall thermal insulation,
- external roof insulation,
- total replacement of window, and
- partial replacement of blinds/shutters.
It was expected that, after retrofitting the energy performance of two pilot buildings should be improved by more than two energy classes, in other words the total energy consumption will decrease around 35 to 53%

Cost Optimal Criteria  


It was expected that, after retrofitting, energy performance of both buildings could be improved from G Class to E Class; and energy consumption will be reduced from 123,6 kWh/m2-year to 85,6 kWh/m2-year (final energy consumption, in theoretical conditions-modeling), accordingly.

As mentioned earlier in ‘Diagnosis’, based on the energy analysis of the pilot buildings before refurbishment, 4 of them can be classified as Energy Class E and one rated as Energy Class D (702 kWh/m2-yr).
Detailed energy analysis was undertaken, of different scenarios of energy-efficiency upgrade measures, in terms of their technical and financial implications. The final preferred scenario for each building was selected on the basis of achieving the project energy targets, within the available overall budget.
 
The following tables show the identified energy efficiency measures as well as the anticipated improvement in the energy performance of each pilot building, through the implementation of these measures.
 

 
It is expected for the Greek pilot experimentation to:
- improve the energy performance of the pilot buildings by either two grades of energy class (from Grade E to Grade C), except Building S1 (one grade improvement, from  D to C); corresponding to a primary energy consumption reduction of ~34-43%.
 
Therefore all 5 pilot buildings achieve the project energy-efficiency improvement targets.

Based on the energy audit and the preliminary analysis, currently, most part of 25 pilot dwellings can be classified as Energy Class F and G. The highest energy consumption of selected dwellings reaches 1127 kWh/m2-yr (primary energy). The detail energy audit results of all pilot dwellings are given in document ‘Energy analysis of pilot dwellings’. 
 
The following tables shows the identified energy efficiency measures. 

 

 
Energy efficiency measures for each pilot dwelling together with the estimated costs are given in document ‘Energy efficiency measures’.
Moreover, the refurbishment costs, energy efficiency increments as well as the foreseen energy performance after retrofitting are reported in the same document.
 
 
 
It was expected for the Cyprus pilot experimentation to:
- improve the pilot buildings by at least one grade of energy class, the best one could be improved by 4 grades  (from Grade G to C, corresponding to a primary energy consumption reduction of 18~76%.
It is worth to remark that, with the total financial contribution of private photovoltaic companies, 10 pilot dwellings were selected and benefited with an additional installation of photovoltaic system, further to the energy renovations. The pilot dwellings for the installation of the photovoltaic were selected according to the suitability of their roof. The installations started in December 2012 and since the October 2013, 9 out of 10 were successfully completed and connected with the net metering system. The 10 dwellings were the first pilots in Cyprus for PV net metering.

Based on the energy audit and the preliminary analysis, before the pilot experimentation, 35 pilot dwellings were classified as Energy Class E o F.

Energy retrofitting plan was well defined for each dwelling. Most pilots applied 2 or more of the following:
• PV systems (in total 30 installations)
• SWH (totally 22 installations)
• Roof insulation (in total 28 installations)
Other measures include:
• Solar film on glass
• Roof reflective paint
• Canopies
• High?efficiency a/c
 
  
 
As a good practical example, one of those  plans is downloadable below.
It was expected for all Malta pilot dwellings to improve the building energy performance by two or more classes.

It is worth to remark that, with the total financial contribution of private photovoltaic companies, 10 pilot dwellings were selected and benefited with an additional installation of photovoltaic system, further to the energy renovations. The pilot dwellings for the installation of the photovoltaic were selected according to the suitability of their roof. The installations started in December 2012 and since the October 2013, 9 out of 10 were successfully completed and connected with the net metering system. The 10 dwellings were the first pilots in Cyprus for PV net metering.

- no wall thermal insulation,
- single glazing,
- having mainly gas boilers for space heating and sanitary hot water. 
The preliminary analysis results showed that, before retrofitting, the specific energy consumption of the dwellings in the first pilot building amounted to 94 -189 kWh/m2, and the second one consumed from 95 -170 kWh/m2, which corresponds to an energy class F/G (first one) and E/F, respectively.
 
 
 
The identified energy efficiency measures are:
- external wall thermal insulation,
- external roof insulation,
- total replacement of window, and
- partial replacement of blinds/shutters.
It was expected that, after retrofitting the energy performance of two pilot buildings should be improved by more than two energy classes, in other words the total energy consumption will decrease around 35 to 53%

As mentioned earlier in ‘Diagnosis’, based on the energy analysis of the pilot buildings before refurbishment, 4 of them can be classified as Energy Class E and one rated as Energy Class D (702 kWh/m2-yr).
Detailed energy analysis was undertaken, of different scenarios of energy-efficiency upgrade measures, in terms of their technical and financial implications. The final preferred scenario for each building was selected on the basis of achieving the project energy targets, within the available overall budget.
 
The following tables show the identified energy efficiency measures as well as the anticipated improvement in the energy performance of each pilot building, through the implementation of these measures.
 

 
It is expected for the Greek pilot experimentation to:
- improve the energy performance of the pilot buildings by either two grades of energy class (from Grade E to Grade C), except Building S1 (one grade improvement, from  D to C); corresponding to a primary energy consumption reduction of ~34-43%.
 
Therefore all 5 pilot buildings achieve the project energy-efficiency improvement targets.

Based on the energy audit and the preliminary analysis, currently, most part of 25 pilot dwellings can be classified as Energy Class F and G. The highest energy consumption of selected dwellings reaches 1127 kWh/m2-yr (primary energy). The detail energy audit results of all pilot dwellings are given in document ‘Energy analysis of pilot dwellings’. 
 
The following tables shows the identified energy efficiency measures. 

 

 
Energy efficiency measures for each pilot dwelling together with the estimated costs are given in document ‘Energy efficiency measures’.
Moreover, the refurbishment costs, energy efficiency increments as well as the foreseen energy performance after retrofitting are reported in the same document.
 
 
 
It was expected for the Cyprus pilot experimentation to:
- improve the pilot buildings by at least one grade of energy class, the best one could be improved by 4 grades  (from Grade G to C, corresponding to a primary energy consumption reduction of 18~76%.
