Monitoring is the unique activity running along with ELIH-Med pilot project implementation; it is very important for:
- supervising the project implementation
- collecting energy consumption data before and after pilot energy refurbishment, and after smart metering experimentations
- valuating the objectives/results obtained
 
The monitory of the pilot projects in Arles was started from data collection.
The monitoring approach and the evaluation methodology developed by ELIH-Med project have been developed and can be downloaded here.

Monitoring is a process to supervise the results obtained after the realization of retrofitting experimentations. Monitoring the energy performance enables to determine if the energy efficiency solutions are the best to realize the objectives and give a straightforward representation of the improvement, and is a key factor to evaluate the sustainability of the project.

Data monitoring of 9 sample pilot apartments was carried out. This activity will be ended up one year after the completion of refurbishment works in order to evaluate data “before and after intervention”.
To survey energy consumption before refurbishment, Genoa project team has been collecting thermal consumption data over the last three years. 
 
Based on monitoring the achievement of pilot projects can be evaluated.  Per this purpose, the ELIH-Med evaluation methodology and related documents are available here.

Monitoring

Monitoring is a process ont only to observe tenants' behaviors in energy consumption but also to supervise the results obtained after the realization of retrofitting experimentations. Monitoring the energy performance enables to determine if the energy efficiency solutions are the best to realize the objectives and give a straightforward representation of the improvement, and is a key factor to evaluate the sustainability of the project.

 

During the starting phase of the pilot projects in Sassari, monitoring activities made by Italian Partner LAORE included:
- collecting energy consumption data
- indoor temperature measurement
- opaque wall U-value measurement (ISO 8969)
 
The monitoring approach and the evaluation methodology developed by ELIH-Med project have been developed and can be downloaded here.

Monitoring

The monitoring plan provides measurements for all 18 units divided into 4 typologies which characterize them:
A) only passive (external wall insulation, windows replacement);
B) passive + photovoltaic + solar thermal;
C) passive + heat pump + solar thermal;
D) passive + solar + heat pump + solar thermal;
 
Moreover, other two units that were not involved into the refurbishment workings, taken as a reference model of the “before refurbishment” condition, are included in the monitoring phase.
 
The monitoring plan for all the these dwellings provides measurements of the following parameters:
- External and internal temperatures, collected at two times of the day;
- Indoor and outdoor relative humidity, collected at two times of the day;
- Measurement of electricity consumption, twice a month;
- Monthly measurement of thermal energy production of solar modules.
 
The monitoring started on 1st July 2014.
Furthermore, in 4 sample dwellings (corresponding to the different typologies of intervention plus 1 relative to the housing that was the subject of refurbishment workings), through appropriate devices with the possibility of reading the data remotely, the following parameters will be detected:
- External and internal temperatures, measured at regular intervals of one hour;
- Indoor and outdoor relative humidity, measured at regular intervals of one hour;
- Daily measurement of electricity consumption;
- Daily measurement of the electricity production of photovoltaic modules.
 
This type of monitoring started on 1st September 2014 and will last for 5 years.
In addition, as regards the gas consumption, the number of gas cylinders used for each dwelling  is being monthly monitored.

Moreover, monitoring is a key factor to evaluate the sustainability of the project. In order to reach the final objectives of the EU2020, the energy efficiency solutions must be surely proved to be the best so that it can be promoted to the whole Mediterranean area.
 
The monitory targets established for the pilot project in Malaga are:
- final building energy consumption reduction
- reduction of the energy for residential water heating generation.
- reduction of apartments HVAC (heating, venting and air cooling) energy
 
Further, monitoring system allows:
- compare the performance of the system with the simulations   performed in previous studies
- compare the performance with other buildings with similar solutions in place.
- evaluate the performance of the different installed systems in the building.
- analyse and define different energy efficiency strategies (from an economic point of view) in order to get the best out of the system.
- establish a system that will allow us to monitor the performance of the system and allow us to monitor performance trends
- determine the reduction of conventional energy and get energy balances within the system
 
Energy meters to determine:
- energy consumed in hot sanitary water production
- energy stored in the tanks
- energy produced by cogeneration system
- energy lost in the hot water circulation
 
Data:
- carry out one year period data processing and analysis

Monitoring is the unique activity throughout the ELIH-Med project; it is very important for:
- supervising the project implementation,
- collecting energy consumption before and after pilot energy refurbishment and smart metering experimentations
- valuating the objectives/results obtained
Moreover, monitoring was the key factor to evaluate the sustainability of the project ELIH-Med. In order to reach the final objectives of the EU2020, the energy efficiency solutions must be surely proved to be the best so that they will be promoted to the whole Mediterranean area.
 
The preliminary monitoring activities carried out by Cyprus project partners included:
 - pilot dwelling visit
 - data acquisitio (including photos)
 - interview with house owners 
 - identification of potential energy efficiency measures
 
Moreover, the general monitoring approach and the evaluation methodology were developed by ELIH-Med project and can be downloaded here.
 
In particular, the monitoring procedure used for Cyprus pilot projects is downloadable.
 
The communication made by cyprus ELIH-Med project team with the owners included:
– on daily base via telephone 
– visits for the smart meter installations 
– visits for the installation of photovoltaics  
– photos and short videos of pilot projects  
– visits for the evaluation of electrical installations  
– visits for the data collection
– bilateral meetings with owners targeted to change energy consumption behaviour 
– visits for retrofit update and programing 
– survey 
 
 
 
The pilot project evaluation was carried out through the specific questionnaire.

Malta

Malta-Gozo

Monitoring

Monitoring was the unique activity running throughout ELIH-Med project implementation; it was very important for:
- supervising the project implementation,
- collecting energy consumption before and after pilot energy refurbishment and smart metering experimentations
The objectives established for the pilot project in Malta are:
- to implement energy-saving technologies and construction techniques in low income housing
- to assess the cost-effectiveness of the various technologies and techniques
- to identify any barriers with energy-efficient technologies and measures to tackle them
- to demonstrate the effectiveness of energy-efficient technologies and measures and promote greater uptake in low income housing
Therefore, monitoring was a key factor to verify the objectives/results obtained and evaluate further the sustainability of the project. 
To evaluate retrofitting, the energy consumption monitory was made through different methods: 
1. all households of selected dwellings supplied copies of their electricity bills for the last two years; the bills were sent by
    the utility company every six months. The households will continue to provide MIEMA with copies of future bills until the
    project ends.
2. a subcontractor was in charge of taking monthly consumption readings of electricity and gas cylinders.
Moreover, temperature readings were taken at three points in 10 households – external, internal under roof insulation, internal not under insulation.

Moreover, the monitoring is a key factor to evaluate the sustainability of the project. In order to reach the final objectives of the EU2020, the energy efficiency solutions must be surely proved to be the best so that it can be promoted to the whole Mediterranean area.
 
The monitory of the pilot projects in Valencia was started from data collection, an ad-hoc questionnaire was prepared. As a good practical examples, the survey and energy consumption monitoring questionnaire and related results are downloadable below.

Moreover, monitoring was the key factor to evaluate the sustainability of the project ELIH-Med. In order to reach the final objectives of the EU2020, the energy efficiency solutions must be surely proved to be the best so that they will be promoted to the whole Mediterranean area.
 
The preliminary monitoring activities carried out by Cyprus project partners included:
 - pilot dwelling visit
 - data acquisitio (including photos)
 - interview with house owners 
 - identification of potential energy efficiency measures
 
Moreover, the general monitoring approach and the evaluation methodology were developed by ELIH-Med project and can be downloaded here.
 
In particular, the monitoring procedure used for Cyprus pilot projects is downloadable.
 
The communication made by cyprus ELIH-Med project team with the owners included:
– on daily base via telephone 
– visits for the smart meter installations 
– visits for the installation of photovoltaics  
– photos and short videos of pilot projects  
– visits for the evaluation of electrical installations  
– visits for the data collection
– bilateral meetings with owners targeted to change energy consumption behaviour 
– visits for retrofit update and programing 
– survey 
 
 
 
The pilot project evaluation was carried out through the specific questionnaire.

Malta Malta-Gozo

Monitoring was the unique activity running throughout ELIH-Med project implementation; it was very important for:
- supervising the project implementation,
- collecting energy consumption before and after pilot energy refurbishment and smart metering experimentations
The objectives established for the pilot project in Malta are:
- to implement energy-saving technologies and construction techniques in low income housing
- to assess the cost-effectiveness of the various technologies and techniques
- to identify any barriers with energy-efficient technologies and measures to tackle them
- to demonstrate the effectiveness of energy-efficient technologies and measures and promote greater uptake in low income housing
Therefore, monitoring was a key factor to verify the objectives/results obtained and evaluate further the sustainability of the project. 
To evaluate retrofitting, the energy consumption monitory was made through different methods: 
1. all households of selected dwellings supplied copies of their electricity bills for the last two years; the bills were sent by
    the utility company every six months. The households will continue to provide MIEMA with copies of future bills until the
    project ends.
2. a subcontractor was in charge of taking monthly consumption readings of electricity and gas cylinders.
Moreover, temperature readings were taken at three points in 10 households – external, internal under roof insulation, internal not under insulation.

Monitoring is a process to supervise the results obtained after the realization of retrofitting experimentations. Monitoring the energy performance enables to determine if the energy efficiency solutions are the best to realize the objectives and give a straightforward representation of the improvement, and is a key factor to evaluate the sustainability of the project.

Data monitoring of 9 sample pilot apartments was carried out. This activity will be ended up one year after the completion of refurbishment works in order to evaluate data “before and after intervention”.
To survey energy consumption before refurbishment, Genoa project team has been collecting thermal consumption data over the last three years. 
 
Based on monitoring the achievement of pilot projects can be evaluated.  Per this purpose, the ELIH-Med evaluation methodology and related documents are available here.

Monitoring is a process ont only to observe tenants' behaviors in energy consumption but also to supervise the results obtained after the realization of retrofitting experimentations. Monitoring the energy performance enables to determine if the energy efficiency solutions are the best to realize the objectives and give a straightforward representation of the improvement, and is a key factor to evaluate the sustainability of the project.

 

During the starting phase of the pilot projects in Sassari, monitoring activities made by Italian Partner LAORE included:
- collecting energy consumption data
- indoor temperature measurement
- opaque wall U-value measurement (ISO 8969)

The monitoring plan provides measurements for all 18 units divided into 4 typologies which characterize them:
A) only passive (external wall insulation, windows replacement);
B) passive + photovoltaic + solar thermal;
C) passive + heat pump + solar thermal;
D) passive + solar + heat pump + solar thermal;
 
Moreover, other two units that were not involved into the refurbishment workings, taken as a reference model of the “before refurbishment” condition, are included in the monitoring phase.
 
The monitoring plan for all the these dwellings provides measurements of the following parameters:
- External and internal temperatures, collected at two times of the day;
- Indoor and outdoor relative humidity, collected at two times of the day;
- Measurement of electricity consumption, twice a month;
- Monthly measurement of thermal energy production of solar modules.
 
The monitoring started on 1st July 2014.
Furthermore, in 4 sample dwellings (corresponding to the different typologies of intervention plus 1 relative to the housing that was the subject of refurbishment workings), through appropriate devices with the possibility of reading the data remotely, the following parameters will be detected:
- External and internal temperatures, measured at regular intervals of one hour;
- Indoor and outdoor relative humidity, measured at regular intervals of one hour;
- Daily measurement of electricity consumption;
- Daily measurement of the electricity production of photovoltaic modules.
 
This type of monitoring started on 1st September 2014 and will last for 5 years.
In addition, as regards the gas consumption, the number of gas cylinders used for each dwelling  is being monthly monitored.

- compare the performance of the system with the simulations   performed in previous studies
- compare the performance with other buildings with similar solutions in place.
- evaluate the performance of the different installed systems in the building.
- analyse and define different energy efficiency strategies (from an economic point of view) in order to get the best out of the system.
- establish a system that will allow us to monitor the performance of the system and allow us to monitor performance trends
- determine the reduction of conventional energy and get energy balances within the system
 
Energy meters to determine:
- energy consumed in hot sanitary water production
- energy stored in the tanks
- energy produced by cogeneration system
- energy lost in the hot water circulation
 
Data:
- carry out one year period data processing and analysis

Monitoring is the unique activity running through all the implementation process of ELIH-Med pilot project; it is very important for:
- supervising the project implementation,
- collecting energy consumption before and after pilot energy refurbishment and smart metering
  experimentations
- valuating the objectives/results obtained
 
Moreover, the monitoring is a key factor to evaluate the sustainability of the project. In order to reach the final objectives of the EU2020, the energy efficiency solutions must be surely proved to be the best so that it can be promoted to the whole Mediterranean area.
 
The monitory of the pilot projects in Valencia was started from data collection, an ad-hoc questionnaire was prepared. As a good practical examples, the survey and energy consumption monitoring questionnaire and related results are downloadable below.

Monitoring is the unique activity throughout the ELIH-Med project; it is very important for:
- supervising the project implementation,
- collecting energy consumption before and after pilot energy refurbishment and smart metering experimentations
- valuating the objectives/results obtained
Moreover, monitoring was the key factor to evaluate the sustainability of the project ELIH-Med. In order to reach the final objectives of the EU2020, the energy efficiency solutions must be surely proved to be the best so that they will be promoted to the whole Mediterranean area.
 
The preliminary monitoring activities carried out by Cyprus project partners included:
 - pilot dwelling visit
 - data acquisitio (including photos)
 - interview with house owners 
 - identification of potential energy efficiency measures
 
Moreover, the general monitoring approach and the evaluation methodology were developed by ELIH-Med project and can be downloaded here.
 
In particular, the monitoring procedure used for Cyprus pilot projects is downloadable.
 
The communication made by cyprus ELIH-Med project team with the owners included:
– on daily base via telephone 
– visits for the smart meter installations 
– visits for the installation of photovoltaics  
– photos and short videos of pilot projects  
– visits for the evaluation of electrical installations  
– visits for the data collection
– bilateral meetings with owners targeted to change energy consumption behaviour 
– visits for retrofit update and programing 
– survey 
 
 
 
The pilot project evaluation was carried out through the specific questionnaire.
